The goal of Skill-IT! is to increase access to information technology fundamentals skill development for students from underserved communities. Skill-IT! utilizes an action-oriented approach to accelerate employment-sector oriented learning for young students through the facilitation of a taught Microsoft Office and computer basics teaching programme, the donation of computer hardware after evaluating the requirements of NGO partners, and unique pedagogical content on computer literacy.
Project Skill-It utilizes a combination of strategies targeted at facilitating better familiarization and access to computer literacy. The Skill-It Learner curriculum is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of computer literacy, including modules on primary features, as well as advanced uses such as Microsoft Office. The curriculum will also be delivered through a series of interactive workshops with students from local NGOs. This will further be complemented by an activity book, allowing students to acquire a more hands-on understanding, and develop contextual understanding of direct applications. Finally, Skill-IT! Listener podcast series will feature interviews with industry stakeholders such as educators, outlining the important computer skills, ways to acquire them, as well as skills in demand across different sectors.
